Despite being the basis of so much of popular music, the percentage of workers from the Black community running our shows is lower than many other industries. In 2024, many can’t understand why our workforce is still so unbalanced and why.
We talk to some of those in the live music business who are doing something about it. From industry-led schemes to encourage Black production professionals, to festivals embracing and promoting Black and Brown music, and ensuring that Black art runs through their DNA, there’s clearly much more to be done.
So how does the business ensure that festivals and their teams are fully reflective of the societies that they operate in?
